MEDINA TOWNSHIP
Medina Neighbourhood Centre Revitalisation Strategy
Considered by many as the historical heart of Kwinana, Medina Township is also revered for its attractive green landscape. Despite famous beginnings (designed by Margaret Feilman, Western Australia’s first female planner) and the majestic fig trees, Medina has lost its shine in recent years. Building on a successful partnership with the Kwinana Town Centre Master Plan, the Town of Kwinana has asked the UDC to develop a revitalisation strategy for Medina with help from businesses and residents in the area.
The project centres on the local community guiding the revitalisation. The program includes public workshops at key stages in the process, and regular design meetings with a steering committee comprising local business owners and residents.
Now, at a point half way through the strategy’s development, Medina locals are considering a number of design options that have grown from community discussions to date. From the options presented the people of Medina have been asked to comment on the amount of open space, new commercial and housing they want to see in their centre. The consultation is running through to 11 September 2009 and the options can be viewed at the Town of Kwinana website, given below.
