The design and research activities of the UDC create a powerful platform for urban design education – offering students hands-on, service learning experiences and opportunities to work directly with communities and practising design professionals on significant current projects. To capitalize on this unique educational environment, the UDC and its partner universities have developed the first multi-disciplinary graduate program in urban design in Western Australia.

In addition to the formal academic program, the UDC is developing introductory courses in urban design to assist councillors, municipal CEOs, Design Review Board members and community advocates participate more effectively in local design debates. We are also interested in introducing urban design ideas and an awareness of neighbourhood quality to primary and high school students, encouraging lifelong engagement in the design issues of their communities.
