As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of The University of Western Australia, Doug is responsible for research policy development and general oversight of the University's research activities, postgraduate education, industry liaison, intellectual property and commercialisation. Prior to joining UWA, he held the positions of Executive Director for Social, Behavioural and Economic Sciences at the Australian Research Council, Head of the Department of Politics and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Adelaide, and Senior Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University’s Research School of Social Sciences. Doug is author of the influential text Business Mates: the Power and Politics of the Hawke Era and joint author of the internationally acclaimed Environmental Politics.
